AHA Courses (Original and Refresher)

BLS Provider – Original and Refresher

The Basic Life Support Providers class provides information on adult, pediatric and infant CPR, including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag-valve mask. The class also covers automated external defibrillation for adults and children, foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious), special resuscitation situations, and other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

This class is required for anyone working in a hospital or healthcare setting. Students not in a healthcare setting are also welcome to take this CPR class. In order to attend a Refresher course, students must have completed a BLS Provider course within the last two years.

Course Length: Approximately 3 to 4 hours for Originals and 2 to 3 hours for Refreshers.

At the end of this course, students will receive an AHA BLS Provider e-Card. American Heart Associate e-Cards are valid for 2 years from date of issue.

This course is taught to the new 2020 CPR Guidelines. The book used for this course was published in 2020. Older versions of this book will not be sufficient for this course.

BLS Provider Skills session

This is a skills session for students who have ALREADY completed the BLS Providers Online Part 1.

Upon successful completion of Part 1, including the online written test, a Part 1 Certificate of Completion is available for students to print. This certificate must then be presented for part 2, the hands-on skills practice and testing session with an AHA BLS Instructor. Students will receive an AHA BLS Provider e-Card, issued by their Instructor’s Training Center, upon successful completion of all three parts.

Successful completion of this course includes three (3) parts:

  • Part 1 – online portion
  • Part 2 – a skills test with an authorized AHA BLS Instructor
  • Part 3 – written test with an authorized AHA BLS Instructor

Heartsaver CPR & AED

Course Description:
This course is intended for the layperson: Educators, Childcare workers, Fitness instructors, Parents, General Public.

This course includes: Adult, Child and Infant CPR, AED use and choking.

Duration: Approximately 3 Hours
This course is for NON-medical professionals. If you are a medical professional, please take the BLS Provider course.

Heartsaver First Aid

Heartsaver courses are intended for individuals who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This would include teachers, childcare workers, fitness trainers, corporate workers, restaurant employees, lifeguards, coaches, parents, babysitters, and anyone who wants to learn how to do CPR and give First Aid.

Heartsaver First Aid provides first responders with training in basic first aid procedures—including the first aid skills recommended by OSHA. The course covers first aid basics, medical emergencies, injury emergencies, and environmental emergencies.

The Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course combines all of the information provided in both the CPR AED and First Aid classes into one class.

This course is for non-healthcare professionals. Anyone who will be working in any healthcare related area, including nursing students, EMTs, or any hospital staff, please register for the BLS Provider course.

Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens

Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Course is a classroom course that teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials.

This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction.

This course is designed for anyone with a reasonable chance of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens such as Correctional Officers, Childcare workers, Security guards, Maintenance workers, School personnel, Hotel housekeepers, and Health and fitness club staff.

AHA’s course uses the PACT acronym (Protect, Act, Clean, Tell) and slogan, “Make a PACT, Know How to Act,” to help students learn and easily recall bloodborne pathogens training.

Students learn how to:
• Protect themselves from exposure to bloodborne pathogens
• Act when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
• Clean themselves and the area when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
• Tell or report any exposure to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace

A student workbook is provider to each individual who takes this course. With the student workbook, a certificate of participation is included. This course meets all requirements of OSHA 1910.1030. This course can be taught at GBAC headquarters, or can be done at your place of employment for any sized group.

Family and Friends CPR

Description from American Heart Association:

The Family & Friends CPR Course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only® CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment by using the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible.

Family & Friends CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life.

NO certification will be issued in this course. This course is for the general public, not healthcare workers.

CEVO

Coaching Emergency Vehicle Operations Ambulance Course

First introduced in the early 90’s, the Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator™ (CEVO) courses for ambulance, fire and police personnel quickly became accepted as standards in driver training for these fields.

American Heart Association Instructor Course

The American Heart Association Instructor Course is a two day course. Prior to taking the course, all participants must provide a copy of their current American Heart Association BLS Provider card, or Heartsaver CPR / First Aid card, depending on which instructor discipline they are seeking certification in. The entire course will be held at GBAC. Participants will cover information such as course organization, policies of both the AHA and GBAC, administration of a course, advertising, equipment cleaning, changes in CPR and why they occur, skills testing, a written test and more.

The next class has been scheduled for the beginning of June 2024. All students must complete both classroom sessions listed below, along with a third session in which the new student will be monitored by GBAC faculty to complete the course. REGISTRATION DEADLINE:         Tuesday, May 21st, 2024
